Malaria Commitment by African Faith Leaders
We have been led -- by faith, by conscience, and by God's calling of mercy and compassion -- to urgently oppose the unnecessary death caused by malaria. This infection makes no distinction between children of Africa's many faiths, and defeating it requires leaders and members of every faith to respond.
We share a belief that saving children from malaria is God's work in every religious tradition. We will make that work our own.
So we make several pledges, to the world and to one another:
- We pledge to reach across faiths, cultures, and ideologies to make the fight against malaria a global, interfaith effort;
- We pledge to educate people in our own communities about malaria prevention and treatment, and to mobilize them to reach out to others;
- We pledge to ensure that resources spent to fight malaria are effectively and transparently spent, by helping to mobilize the faith sector in this effort.
- And, we pledge to work to ensure that every at-risk person in our congregations will sleep each night under a bed net.
Defeating this deadly disease will give the people of Africa a chance for a brighter future. Our children deserve no less.
