South Korean Samsohoe Nuns Visit CIFA

cifa-korean-nunsOn June 22, 2010, representatives and patrons of Samsohoe, a South Korean inter-faith association of Nuns  from the Buddhist, Roman Catholic, Anglican and Won-Buddhist religions, visited CIFA offices. Accompanied by colleagues from the U.N. Foundation’s “Girl Up” campaign, the Samsohoe Sisters spent time with CIFA staff members, sharing their experiences of working across religious lines, and discussing our common goal of mobilizing faith communities towards advocacy for girls’ empowerment.

Samsohoe has pledged to raise $1 million to fund the Berhane Hewan and Biruh Tesfa United Nations’ adolescent girl programs in Ethiopia. The impetus behind the visit to Washington, D.C. was to spend time with the U.N. Foundation and key partners such as CIFA in order to learn more about programs targeting girls’ and women’s rights.
