As Associate for Programs and Development at the Center for Interfaith Action on Global Poverty, Jonathan works with the HIV/AIDS team to implement effective programs that unite religions for interfaith action. He also closely collaborates with the strategy team to develop new projects and pursue research objectives.
Before joining CIFA, Jonathan introduced faith leaders to federal initiatives while interning in the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. Previously, as an undergraduate at the U.S. Department of State, he partnered with the Religion and Global Affairs Working Group to analyze religious engagement at American embassies around the world. Jonathan’s prior service with Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria shapes his understanding of the global health issues to which faith communities are called to respond. He has also interned as a community organizer in North Carolina and a human rights advocate in Arizona.
A native of Florida, Jonathan graduated summa cum laude from Duke University as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in public policy studies while devoting significant efforts to interfaith dialogue and teamwork. Washington’s Catholic activities and amateur acting opportunities are among Jonathan’s passions.
